Attending BritCHI with two Futures Publications
Happy to present two works on speculative and critical social robot design at the BCS HCI conference (aka. BritCHI) today in Cardiff! Thank you to the organisers and attendees for a wonderful conference.
💃 🗑️ “Choreographing Trash Cans: On Speculative Futures of Weak Robots in Public Spaces” introduces two speculative design fictions. It explores a utopian and dystopian choreography of a trash picking robot in public space. It explores how aesthetic choices such as cuteness, and behavioural choices such as nudging, can construct desirable and undesirable futures. Find this creative collaboration with Dr. Lea Luka Sikau here.

What was your last experience with a robot in public like?
⭐ 🌈 “Speculative Design of Equitable Robotics: Queer Fictions and Futures” critically discusses the idea of equitable robotics, and queering robots and robotics. It introduces three speculative design prototypes of equitable robots. It questions what aspirational queer robotics futures might look like, and what the potential ethical pitfalls are.
